Remembering Philip Kogan
10/4/1930 – 24/12/2022
It is with regret that we are announcing the death of Philip Kogan, Kogan Page founder, at the age of 92. Philip launched Kogan Page in 1967 following an initial career as a research physicist and then moved into publishing in 1962 to join Sampson Lowe followed by the publisher, Cornmarket.
He started Kogan Page with Terry Page (who left after six months) and went on to build a global company which remains independent to this day. Philip was the first to believe that business books could be accessible and practical and many of the lists that he started are still in existence today, publishing in subjects such as Human Resources, Logistics and Marketing.
Philip was a publishing leader and was chair of the Independent Publishers Guild from 1975 to 1977, receiving its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 and Treasurer to the Publishers Association in the 1980s.
He was immensely proud of Kogan Page and his colleagues both past and present.
Philip leaves his wife, Gillian, children, David, Helen and Sarah and grandchildren Rebecca, Emma, Hannah, Joe and Jake.
If you would like to pay tribute to Philip, his family are requesting for donations to be made to the Book Trade Charity in his memory: https://philipkogan.muchloved.com/
