AI Copyright Infringement Statement
Kogan Page views the safeguarding of copyrighted material with the highest regard. In light of the acknowledgement by Meta, that it has used unauthorised copyrighted works from the pirate site LibGen, we are working with our representative bodies - The Publishing Association, Independent Publishers Guild and the Publishers’ Licensing Services – to support the following measures:
- Active engagement with ministers and MPs through targeted letters and briefings.
- Continued campaigning on AI and copyright, with our representative bodies as members of the Creative Rights in AI Coalition.
- Our representatives working with international partners and keeping up to date with AI legal cases around the world through our networks.
- Lobbying for clauses to be included within The Data (Access and Use) Bill for full transparency on AI training data.
Steps you can take:
- Send a formal notice if your books are in the LibGen data set; you can check this here. You can send a letter to Meta and other AI companies stating they do not have the right to use your books. The Authors Guild gives a template here.
- Write to your local MP: Safe guarding creative rights is of vital importance and escalating this to government will keep the pressure for action: The Creative Rights in AI Coalition have an email form here.
- Sign the statement on AI training: 47,000 creators have signed the statement on AI training here.
